Top 10 characters score /20 · units are estimates
Ranked by total score (demand + speed to first sale + competition + risk, each 1–5; 5 = best, i.e. low competition / low risk).
The top 10 leans towards Q4 because the goal is results within one week, and October to December is gift and Advent season. Several characters overlap (Oma Gerda, Wichtel Willi and Advent Annika), so you could run them as one shop with several personas. Strong evergreen options outside the top 10 are Teta Mira (Yugo 2027 calendar, 14), Nona Lucija (multilingual host kit, 16), Memory Lane Mae (16), Budget Bruno (14) and RACK-01 (15).
Seven-day launch plans for the top 3
Shared setup on day 0 to 1: create the anonymous brand email and the shop (Etsy and/or Payhip/Gumroad). Payout blocker: UAE payout routes need UAE residence or a licence (see §5e). An EU-resident setup (e.g. Payhip or Lemon Squeezy paying out to an EU bank or PayPal) has to be decided before day 1. This is not tax advice. Etsy AI disclosure goes in every listing, with the AI label on character images and videos (EU AI Act Art. 50, ZMed-1). Etsy does not allow AI prompt bundles; these are finished printables, not prompt bundles.
1. Grandpa Puzzle Pete (large-print puzzles, EN; DE spin-off Kaffeeklatsch Kurt)
- D1: Generate 100 word searches and 50 fill-ins with an open-source generator (Python), then lay them out in 20–24 pt print. Use a Christmas/winter theme for set 2.
- D2: Character art (a friendly cartoon grandpa, clearly illustrated rather than photoreal) and mock-ups. Write the Etsy titles and tags: "large print word search seniors", "dementia-friendly" is NOT used (medical-sounding).
- D3: Publish 5 listings: 100-pack, Christmas pack, holiday trivia, bundle, and a free 5-page sample on Payhip to capture emails.
- D4: 10 Pinterest pins. Post in Facebook caregiver and activity-coordinator groups only where the group rules allow it (manual, as the brand).
- D5: Add a DE version (Kurt) and a "care-home licence" tier at USD 15.
- D6–7: Check views and favourites. Adjust titles and add 3 more themed packs (1960s, travel, animals).
- Target: 1–5 sales in week 1 (est.).
2. Advent Annika (multilingual Advent and Christmas printables)
- D1: Write 24 kindness and activity prompts once, then translate them into DE/EN/HR/PL/IT and get a native check where possible. Make 24 printable cards plus a tracker.
- D2: Create the character and make one listing per language, plus a 5-language bundle. Use local keywords such as "Adventskalender Karten Kinder" and "adventski kalendar aktivnosti".
- D3: Publish. Add pins per language and an Instagram/Facebook page with an AI-label bio.
- D4–5: Add an "Advent for couples/adults" variant and Christmas-Eve game cards.
- D6–7: Reprice or bundle based on favourites. Advent starts on 29 Nov 2026 (1st Advent Sunday). Buyers usually purchase in early to mid November, so keep ramping up.
- Target: 1–5 sales in week 1, rising in November (est.).
3. Grandma Tell-Me Tess (grandparent memory journal; DE: Opa Otto; HR/BCS: Baka & Me)
- D1: Write about 150 prompts in EN (childhood, love, work, advice) and lay out a 60-page printable plus a fillable PDF.
- D2: Make the DE and BCS bilingual editions. The diaspora angle ("Bako, ispričaj mi") has low competition.
- D3: Publish 4 listings (EN, DE, EN/DE, BCS/DE) and position them as Christmas gifts with a "print at home" mock-up.
- D4: Pinterest gift-guide pins and Facebook diaspora groups, where rules allow.
- D5: Add a matching "grandkid interviews grandparent" kids' worksheet as an upsell.
- D6–7: Review the numbers and add a grandpa edition.
- Target: 1–4 sales in week 1 (est.).

-
"Istria Host Kit": STR host templates.
- Character: "Nona Lucija", a stylised (clearly illustrated, not photorealistic) Istrian host grandmother mascot who explains good hosting.
- First product: a multilingual (HR/EN/DE/IT/SL) editable Canva welcome book plus house rules plus an eVisitor and check-in checklist, at about €9–15. That's below the full prices of the leading Etsy templates (USD 15.62) while staying above their sale prices.
- Channels: Etsy (global search), Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook host groups.
- Upsell: a pricing and occupancy Google Sheet, and a guest Wi‑Fi isolation kit (link to #2).
-
Homelab templates (global English).
- Character: "RACK-01", a stylised robot sysadmin narrating screen-recorded builds.
- First product: a "Proxmox + Home Assistant + OPNsense VLAN starter pack" (docker-compose stacks, VLAN plan worksheet, backup runbook, Obsidian/Notion documentation template), priced around €19–29 on Gumroad or Lemon Squeezy. This price is my assumption; comparable prices: not found.
- Channels: YouTube long-form (higher tech RPM), Reddit and forums, X.
-
Renovation planner for old Croatian/Balkan houses (HR/DE/EN, diaspora).
- Character: "Majstor Bepo", an illustrated master-builder mascot.
- First product: a renovation cost calculator plus contractor-quote comparison sheet plus permit-document checklist, with editable EUR/m² unit prices. About €12–19 on Etsy, Payhip or Lemon Squeezy (Etsy renovation planners with real review counts are listed in 7.3).
- Channels: Facebook groups (diaspora, house owners), Pinterest, YouTube explainer Shorts.
Why not finance or health first: the demand and RPM are the highest, but competition is extreme. On top of that, MAR (finance) and the health-claims rules plus credential-based trust (health) clash with a fully anonymous AI brand. If finance is wanted, add budgeting-only templates later as a product line (see 7.4 angle).
Shared rules for all three: stylised mascots (lower deepfake and labelling burden), an AI label wherever content is realistic, AI disclosure in every Etsy listing, no advice (only tools and templates), and date-stamped regional rule references.
Payout options and UAE residency requirements verified 9 Oct 2026
UAE residency requirements
- UAE bank account: a cancelled or expired visa does not automatically freeze the account, but the bank can reclassify it as a non-resident account and must update KYC when the ID expires. Expect requests for documents (passport and home-country address) and possible restrictions until they're provided. Sources:
- Gumroad, Etsy, Wise and Stripe UAE all tie eligibility to actually living in the UAE: proof of residence, a residential address, or an active residence permit or Emirates ID. Using a UAE bank account while living elsewhere risks frozen payouts or closed accounts. Don't misstate your country of residence on any KYC form.
- Stripe UAE (and therefore Stan Store's Stripe option and Payhip/Ko-fi via Stripe) needs a UAE trade licence or freelancer permit. That isn't possible without residency or a licence.
-
Practical options:
- If the seller is resident in the EU, sell under that EU residence (Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy and Payhip all support EU sellers; a local sole-trader registration may be needed for tax purposes) and pay out to an EU bank.
- If the seller holds valid UAE residency, PayPal UAE or Payoneer covers most platforms, and Stripe UAE needs a trade licence or freelancer permit.
- Tax residency and business registration need a qualified advisor. I haven't verified this part.

| Platform | AI persona / virtual influencer allowed? | AI label required? | Monetization | Impersonation / real people | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube | Yes. "Channels that use AI… remain eligible for monetization" | Yes, for realistic content: real person saying or doing something they didn't, altered real events or places, or realistic scenes that didn't happen. Not required for clearly unrealistic or animated content or for scripting help. Since May 2026 YouTube auto-labels detected photorealistic AI, and a C2PA "fully AI" label can't be removed | YPP "inauthentic content" (renamed 15 Jul 2025): mass-produced, templated, repetitive AI content is not monetizable. Bottom line: fictional AI characters are allowed on every major platform, but anything photorealistic must carry each platform's AI label (YouTube, TikTok and Meta all require it). Impersonating real people or faking real events is banned or heavily restricted. YouTube won't monetize mass-produced templated AI content, so every video needs real script or insight value.
Compliance checklist
Tick items as you set up each persona/shop (ticks are not saved). Based on research.md §6, §5f and §8.5. Not legal advice.
- "AI character" in every bio, and the platform's AI label on every realistic post. YouTube, TikTok and Meta all require labels for photorealistic AI; Meta: "Label this content as made with AI" under Advanced settings. Prefer stylised mascots (lower labelling burden).
- EU AI Act Art. 50 (applies from 2 Aug 2026): clearly disclose deepfakes (realistic image, audio or video that could falsely look authentic) at the latest on first exposure. Evidently artistic/creative/fictional works get a lighter disclosure that still has to be made. AI text on matters of public interest needs disclosure unless human-edited. Code of Practice suggests the EU "AI" icon; for video at the start, after interruptions and at regular intervals.
- "AI" mark on screen at the start of each video, and also at the end for Slovenia. ZMed-1 (in force 27 Sep 2025) requires labelling at the beginning and end; whether it covers social personas is not verified.
- Etsy: disclose AI in every listing description. AI art is allowed as "seller-prompted AI creations"; AI prompt bundles are banned (sell finished printables, not prompts). Selling scans/PDFs of other people's work is banned.
- No archival photos, film stills, logos or trademarks. Most 1980s photos are still protected in the EU (70-year term, Directive 2006/116/EC). Avoid marks such as "Elf on the Shelf", Zastava/Yugo, Cockta, Pewex, Commodore, Tamagotchi; no song lyrics. Use original AI or illustrated art only.
- No real people, no fake real events. Realistic AI of real figures or events counts as "realistic scenes that didn't happen" and may fall under the EU deepfake definition; impersonation is banned on TikTok and X.
- No health, financial or legal advice; tools, templates and organisers only. EU Reg. 1924/2006 bans unauthorised health claims; ESMA: posts on investments can be MAR investment recommendations (conflicts with anonymity). E.g. "dementia-friendly" is not used in titles.
- Original value per video. YouTube "inauthentic content" (from 15 Jul 2025): mass-produced, templated AI videos are not monetizable.
- GDPR consent for any customer photos (personalised edits): consent, privacy policy, data deletion; never edit minors. Political and religious topics (ex-Yu, Ottoman, Soviet, DDR, Gulf; Ramadan, Hajj, Orthodox) need care and a knowledgeable reviewer.
Full legal notes (§6b): EU AI Act, DSA, Slovenia ZMed-1, Croatia, UAE
-
EU AI Act Article 50, applicable since 2 August 2026:
- Providers must mark AI output in a machine-readable way.
- Deployers (that includes the publisher) must clearly disclose deepfakes, meaning realistic image, audio or video resembling real people, places, objects or events that could falsely look authentic. The disclosure must come at the latest when someone first sees the content.
- Evidently artistic, creative, satirical or fictional works get a lighter disclosure that still has to be made.
- AI-generated text on matters of public interest also needs disclosure unless it has been through human editorial review.
- The Code of Practice suggests the EU "AI" icon. For video: at the start, after interruptions, and at regular intervals.

- DSA: obligations fall on platforms, not on individual creators. Under Art. 35(1)(k), very large platforms may need prominent markings on deepfakes and a way for users to flag them. That's why the platforms enforce labels.
-
Slovenia, ZMed-1 (Media Act, in force 27 Sep 2025):
- Media content made wholly or partly with generative AI must be clearly identifiable and labelled at the beginning and the end, and publishers must explain how they use AI.
- Whether a social-media persona counts as "media" under ZMed-1 is something I haven't verified, so get legal advice if publishing from Slovenia.

- Croatia: the 2024 law implementing the European Media Freedom Act includes an article on labelling AI-generated content. I haven't verified the details (https://www.zakon.hr/z/4010/).
-
UAE:
- Media Law (Federal Decree-Law 55/2023) and Cabinet Decision 42/2025 set fines for content-standard violations. Reported range is AED 5,000–1,000,000.
- The UAE Media Council has warned against using AI to spread misinformation or to depict public figures or national symbols without approval.
- An Advertiser Permit is required (from late Oct 2025) for anyone in the UAE posting promotional content, paid or unpaid. Promoting only your own business from a personal account is exempt.

-
Practical compliance checklist:
- "AI character" in the bio.
- The platform's AI label on every realistic post.
- An "AI" mark on screen at the start of each video (and the end too, for Slovenia).
- No real people, no fake real events, no health or financial promises.
- Disclose AI in every Etsy listing.
- GDPR consent for any customer photos.
Nostalgia-specific risks (§5f)
- Copyright on archival photos: in the EU, photos are generally protected for 70 years after the author's death, or 70 years after publication for anonymous works (Term Directive 2006/116/EC, https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dir/2006/116/oj). Most 1980s photos are still protected, so don't repost or sell archival scans or film stills without a licence. Generate original scenes instead.
- Trademarks and brands: Cockta, Yugo/Zastava, Pewex and similar names may still be registered trademarks. Avoid putting logos on products you sell.
- Real people and events: realistic AI images of real historical figures (Tito, for example) or real events (Sarajevo '84, for example) count as "realistic scenes that didn't happen". They need AI labels on YouTube, TikTok and Meta, and may fall under the EU deepfake definition. Keep the scenes generic or stylised.
- Political sensitivity: communist symbols and Yugoslav-war memories are divisive in ex-Yu countries, and comment sections may get heated. Avoid war topics.
- Personalised photo edits: customer photos are personal data under GDPR. You need consent, a privacy policy and data deletion. Never edit photos of other people without consent, and never edit minors.
Not verified, to check later: Claude Pro price; AWS GPU prices; AI policies on Lemon Squeezy, Payhip, Ko-fi and Stan; X monetization rules for AI content; Croatia's labelling details; whether ZMed-1 applies to social accounts; Etsy's UAE payment-processing rate; current follower counts for the Facebook pages.
Seasonal timing
The Top 10 leans towards Q4 because the goal is results within one week, and October to December is gift and Advent season.

- Etsy-organic: a new shop with 5–10 listings and no ads is assumed to reach about 0.5–3% of a top comparable's 30-day velocity. The comparables are FindNiche data for two top budget listings, at 347 and 80 sales per 30 days. The FindNiche URLs were not retained.
- Social-led: about 300–1,500 followers by day 30 (an assumption, no source) × 0.5–1% conversion. Conversion sources: rupa.pro (0.5–1% of a 10k audience) and HubSpot's 1.1% micro-influencer figure via creatorflow.so.
- Seasonal: the same as Etsy-organic, but in the Q4 peak. There is no source for the size of the uplift.
- Off-season: scaled down.
- Etsy review counts can be turned into sales at a 5–15% review rate (sellertoolshq). Sellers self-report about 15–36% (Reddit r/EtsySellers). Several numbers are shop totals, not listing totals, and this is noted per row.
- Scores (1–5, my judgement): demand, speed to first sale, competition (5 = low) and risk (5 = low). The total is out of 20.
- "no source" means I found no comparable. I did not fabricate follower counts or URLs. Some URLs are bare Etsy listing IDs or YouTube @handles that were queried with yt-dlp on 9 Oct 2026. No Google Trends or keyword-volume data was used.
Key caveats (§8.5)
- All sales numbers are estimates. A brand-new anonymous shop has no audience, so week-1 sales depend on Etsy search, and several weeks of zero sales is a realistic outcome.
- Seasonality: Christmas, Advent and New Year are in season now. Halloween ends 31 Oct. Ramadan/Eid (early 2027, exact date not verified here), Easter and gardening are off-season, so build those catalogues now and launch them later.
- Payouts: UAE payout routes require UAE residence or a licence (see §5e). Without it, use an EU setup and check tax registration with an accountant.
- Policy: Etsy requires AI disclosure and bans prompt bundles. YouTube's "inauthentic content" rule targets templated mass videos. Realistic AI has to be labelled (EU AI Act Art. 50 applies from 2 Aug 2026; ZMed-1 in SI). No health, financial or legal advice; organisers only. Use original art only: no archival photos, logos, movie stills, song lyrics, or trademarks such as "Elf on the Shelf", Zastava, Commodore or Tamagotchi.
- Political and religious sensitivity: ex-Yu, Ottoman, Soviet, DDR and Gulf topics need care. Religious products (Ramadan, Hajj, Orthodox) need a knowledgeable reviewer.
- Latin-script rule: Arabic content is possible for buyers, but the internal working copy stays in Latin script. Greek and Cyrillic content was moved to English or Latin script.
- Evidence gaps: no keyword-volume or Google Trends data. Many rows are marked "no source". Some figures are third-party (Soviet Visuals) or old (PRL page, 2012).
